2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

2016 Honda Pilot

For a compact SUV that is cozy and cool, go with the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport! It has amazing performance, tons of appeal, and is a great value for drivers who need it on a daily basis, and for road adventures. Competitors such as the 2016 Honda Pilot can't match it in any way, and only further show why Hyundai has done it again by adding another stand-out vehicle to its wonderful line-up.

Impressive Pricing and Mileage

One of the first notable distinctions between the 2017 Santa Fe Sport and the 2016 Honda Pilot is the price. MSRP pricing for the Santa Fe Sport's three trims are $25,350 - $36,500 for FWD and $27,100 - 38,250 for AWD.

Conversely, the Pilot's five trims are $30,145 - $41,170 for 2WD and $31.945 - $46, 570 for AWD. When looking at the two most expensive trims for each model alone, the Sport 2.0 Ultimate excels in premium features over the Pilot Elite, saving you a considerable amount of money.

That extra savings also carries over to EPA-estimated mpgs, with the Santa Fe Sport having 20-21 city and 27-28 highway for its trims, as compared to the Pilot's ranges of 18-20 city, and 26-27 highway.

Powerhouse Performance

Under the hood is another win for the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, which has either a 240-hp 2.0L engine with 260 lb. ft. torque, or a 185-hp 2.4L engine with 178 lb. ft. torque. The GDI motors are supported by six-speed automatic SHIFTRONIC® transmission, hill start assist and downhill brake controls that are standard for all trims.

The Pilot's 280-hp 3.5L engine with 262 lb. ft. torque has six-speed transmission, with nine-speed transmission only available for a couple of trims. Considering the higher price tags, it's not that great of a driving force, and the limited transmission option is quite disappointing.

Distinctive Features

Key features between the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and the Honda Pilot highlight Hyundai's superiority:

  • 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport: Not feeling cramped is a key to comfort, and the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport provides that benefit with 41.3" front and 39.4" rear legroom. Other convenient and comforting features include heated side mirrors and a rear-spoiler integrated LED high-mount stop light on the outside, and 40/20/40 split-folding rear seating and four 12V outlets inside. Lovely add-ons include the innovative Dynamic Bending Light system, a heated steering wheel, and sliding rear seating with cargo-space release.
  • 2016 Honda Pilot: There's a let-down with the 2016 Honda Pilot, as it only offers 40.9" front and 38.4" rear leg room, less 12V outlets, and 60/40 split-folding seats. It also doesn't illuminate in the extensive and enhanced way that Hyundai's lighting does, for maximum focus and navigation.
