2017 Hyundai Elantra

2016 Hyundai Elantra GT

Drivers from Savannah, Beaufort, and Hilton Head probably already know that the Hyundai Elantra offers one of the best packages in the auto industry. But drivers might not be aware of the subtle but significant differences between the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT and the 2017 Hyundai Elantra. Yes, both cars follow through on the Hyundai promise of power, space, and the latest in sophisticated digital technologies, but compare the Elantra GT and the 2017 Elantra to see some of the differences that makes these two exciting vehicles unique.

A Choice of Power

Both the 2017 Hyundai Elantra and the 2016 Elantra GT run on dynamically capable engines, though the GT is slightly more powerful, while the 2017 Elantra is more efficient:

  • The 2017 Hyundai Elantra - With a 2.0L Atkinson Cycle 4-cylinder engine, the Elantra achieves 147hp, and its 6-speed automatic transmission system works with a high-strength but light-weight steel frame to maximize fuel efficiency, enabling the Elantra to get an impressive 38 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, Drive Mode Select provides drivers with wide-ranging control over throttle response and steering effort by offering three different steering modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport.
  • The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT - The 2016 Elantra GT runs on a more powerful engine than the 2017 Hyundai Elantra-a 2.0L GDI DOHC 16-valve 4-Cylinder-and realizes 173 hp, and it offers 6-speed manual transmission, but it only gets 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

A Choice of Space

Along with giving drivers from Savannah, Beaufort, and Hilton Head a choice of power, the Hyundai 2016 GT and 2017 Elantra also give drivers a choice when it comes to interior space. Both vehicles are versatile-for example, both come with 60/40 split fold-down rear seat backs-but the GT provides slightly more cargo volume.

  • The 2017 Hyundai Elantra - With 95.8 cubic feet of passenger volume, the 2017 Elantra provides ample room for passengers, but it also promises 14.4 cubic feet for cargo, while providing 110.2 cubic feet of total interior volume.
  • The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT - Like the 2017 Elantra, the GT offers plenty of passenger space-96.1 cubic feet-but it also offers much more cargo room, with 23 cubic feet of cargo volume, as well as greater total interior volume (119 cubic feet).

A Choice of Technology

A choice of power. A choice of space. And a choice of technologies. On the one hand, both the 2017 Hyundai Elantra and the Hyundai offer up a wealth of the latest technologies to keep you and your passengers connected and safe: Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability lets you plug your smartphone directly into your vehicle, while a Bluetooth hands-free phone system makes communication easy and safe, and a Rearview camera will help with parallel parking in Savannah or at the beach. But there are some important differences, especially when it comes to safety:

  • The 2017 Hyundai Elantra - The 2017 Elantra makes available a Forward Collision Warning System to help you avert accidents, as well as Lane Departure and Lane Keep Assist programs.
  • The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT - The GT features a huge array of standard safety features-Electronic Stability Control, Brake Assist, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System-but no Forward Collision system.
