2019 Kona: An Exotic Exterior

The 2019 Kona, winner of the 2019 North American Utility of the Year™ award, does things a bit differently than your traditional SUV. It all starts with the placement of those narrow, slit-like lights at the edge of the hood. They're the daytime running lights, not the headlights (which sit in separate housing, on level with the grille).

It's an interesting way to change things up, and it's not the only way this small crossover will get noticed. Its slate of paint colors is a palette for island-inspired adventure, from Surf Blue and Lime Twist to Thunder Gray and, new for 2019, a striking Sunset Orange.

Roof rails, standard on all but the base trim, add utility to this SUV. Just add an accessory roof rack, and you'll have the perfect place to tie down your bike, kayak, or other adventure gear.

Interior: A Cabin Fit for Ohana

Once you've finished admiring the looks of the Hyundai Kona, you can slide inside the cabin and get a feel for the generous space. It's a cabin fit for the whole family.

With nearly 38 inches of headroom and almost 35 inches of legroom, the backseat is ideally sized for two adults (or three kids) sitting side by side. There's room to relax and stretch your legs, and with the optional power sunroof, the cabin feels larger than life.

You can tilt it open to let the heat escape after your Kona has been baking in the summer sun. You can also slide it open during your drive and bathe the front row in fresh air and natural light.

Power Your Coastal Adventure

The 2019 Kona may surprise you with the spirit of the engine under its hood. The available turbocharged 1.6L 4-cylinder pushes you forward with 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

That's a lively way to get around town, and potent enough to take on the highways with confidence. You can cruise along U.S. Route 17 and catch some of that balmy sea breeze!

Sometimes, storm surges leave those coastal roads near Hardeeville, Bluffton, and Hilton Head Island wet and flooded. The Kona is ready, though, with available all-wheel drive (AWD) to give you surer footing on every journey.
